Extended DISC Profiling
Have you ever wondered:
- What makes people tick?
- Why we behave the way we do?
- Why some people get along with everyone and others struggle to connect?
- Why some people can make decisions on the fly while others need to mull it over?
- What makes some people big picture thinkers and others detail oriented?
- Why it's so easy to spend time doing some things but other activities quickly drain you?
All of these questions and many more can be answered through the Extended DISC® behavioural profiling tool. Extended DISC® is based on the DISC theory developed by psychologist (and inventor of Wonder Woman!) William Moulton Marston and introduced in his book Emotions of Normal People, almost a century ago.
This theory was based on early work by Carl Jung and places the expression of human emotion into four behaviour types: Dominant, Influence, Stability and Compliance. The DISC assessment was later developed by psychologist Walter Clarke and has since been used by more than 50 million people worldwide. In 1994 Jukka Sappinen took DISC to the next level and developed the Extended DISC® system we use today.
Extended DISC® can be profoundly useful in both personal and business settings. From understanding why a relationship may be tense, to hiring staff who will fit perfectly into a team, there are myriad applications. Unlike a personality test the E-DISC profile addresses energy and behaviour styles which can be changed or adapted with awareness and conscious effort.

Extended DISC Profiling in the Workplace
It's about possibility.
As a behavioural profiling too, the Extended DISC theory is all about possibility, rather than pigeon-holing. It is not about classifying people into "good" and "bad" categories or placing someone into a convenient little box. It is about identifying our individual energetic wiring - our natural behavioural and response styles to different situations - so we can better understand our own behaviour, as well as that of others around us. Having this understanding means we can learn how to adjust our behaviour to be more effective in a given situation, improve our communication and ensure that our work is aligned with our natural styles and truly maximising our capabilities.
Energy.
Without realising it we adapt our behaviour frequently depending on the situations we find ourselves in. A reasonably common example is being more social in particular settings - usually the places one feels most comfortable - but more introverted at other times. At work you might be very serious and conscientious due to the nature of the workplace, while on the weekend you might cut loose and spend your time catching up with lots of friends.
We often don't notice these behavioural adjustments simply because we have been making them for so long. But when we look closer, as we do with the Extended DISC profile tool, we can begin to identify which of these changes and adaptations deplete our energy quickly and which behaviours restore and reinvigorate us. When we spend too much time in areas outside of our natural styles, without sustainable strategies in place, we can find ourselves rapidly heading down the path to burnout.
And flexibility.
When we have the insight that comes from an Extended DISC behavioural profile we can begin to truly appreciate our natural wiring and the unique strengths it yields, while also better understanding where we may need to adapt and developing healthy, sustainable strategies to access those areas. In doing so we build our behavioural flexibility and our ability to cope successfully with a growing range of circumstances. The ability to adapt our behaviour to suit any given situation cannot be understated when it comes to getting the most out of both work and life.
For individuals
As you can see our E-DISC profiling tool can be extremely useful for anyone in a workplace setting: business owners, leaders, supervisors and other team members. It can easily identify how an individual is naturally inclined, allowing them to improve performance and productivity, communication and teamwork by capitalising on their natural strengths and motivators. It is a great first step in expanding self-awareness and understanding in the workplace.
As a business owner your dominant behavioural styles may be impacting you more than you realise, but with awareness and developing the right strategies you will discover the freedom that comes from moving past your previous limitations, and see the profound positive impact it can have on your business. You'll understand why you do the things you do, where you may need to adapt and how to better use your strengths to your advantage.
As a leader you must firstly develop a solid understanding of yourself including your own capabilities as well as your blind spots, before you can fully understand and appreciate those of your team members. It's about uncovering possibilities and developing in areas that were previously more challenging due to your most dominant personal styles. Being able to see and value what you bring to the table opens up your capacity to do the same with others.
When you know how best to develop and motivate your team members, workplace dynamics improve and turnover is greatly reduced, saving a business valuable time and money.
With a comprehensive report and unpack session you won't be left wondering what any of it means, and you'll walk away with a concrete action plan to maximise your learning.

Wow, the EDISC unpack was quite remarkable. I now have a wealth of new information about myself and how I contribute to my team. I realise there are some areas I need to work on in order to be more effective but after our discussion I feel more confident in doing that work. Thank you!

For teams
While an individual profile is an extremely powerful tool for personal development, the capacity to use E-DISC for team development is where it really comes into its own. Team assessments combine the individual profiles of team members into a single comprehensive report which helps to identify team dynamics, pinpoint gaps and development areas within the team, and compare communication styles.
Team reports show both the natural and real time/adapted profiles of each member as well as an overview of how the different behavioural styles exist across the team. This can help to quickly identify what areas the team may need assistance to develop and where they truly excel.
This knowledge alone can improve employee engagement levels, however learning more about colleagues unique wiring and providing feedback on individual strengths in our E-DISC Team Communication Package is even more powerful in achieving this goal.

Thank you for the insight into the gaps in our team. Knowing that we were low in I energy on the team meant that we could look out for those qualities during the recruitment process. We're really pleased with our newest hire who seems to fill the gap perfectly.

I really enjoyed the team EDISC session - it gave me some great tools to consider when communicating with the other members of my team as well as feedback on areas for personal professional improvement. I always come away from Jen's sessions feeling positive.

The Process
The E-DISC process is straightforward and simple.
1. Request a profile.
The first step is requesting your E-DISC profile (or multiple profiles for a team). Depending on your arrangement you may pay the fee upfront or on invoice.
2. Receive instructions.
We send all of the relevant information to you in an email. This includes full instructions on where and how to take the questionnaire as well as your unique access code.
3. Take online questionnaire.
You take the online questionnaire which will take around 8-10 minutes to complete. You should eliminate any distractions prior to taking the assessment and make sure you can focus solely on the questions.
4. Attend your 90 minute unpack session.
Once you've completed the assessment we arrange a time to go through your report and make sure you fully understand what it all means and how you can apply it to your current situation. There will be plenty of time to ask questions!
5. Receive your full report.
Having completed the unpack session, you will receive your report to keep. Generally we won't provide this prior to a session to avoid confusion and overwhelm.
